One of the latest titles in Middleton Press’ Scottish Main Lines series covers the Waverley between Hawick & Galashields. Needless to say it has just arrived on my bookshelf and makes a great companion to the Carlisle to Hawick volume covering the southern part of the route. The new title follows the same format as the rest of the series with maps, trackplans and photos and is another great resource for the Waverley modeller. the earlier book and the one covering the Border Counties line Hexham to Hawick already have loads about Hawick station but there is fresh material in this volume. There is also coverage of Melrose, St Boswells and a section devoted to the Selkirk branch before concluding in Gala.
While my favourite part of the line is definitely the bit south of Hawick its nice to learn about the part I have most contact with. I’m a reasonably frequent driver on the road that is built on the trackbed between St Boswells and Melrose. Its nice to have the detail about the original railway that once ran here.
For those of you that are interested these are the older Waverley related titles in the series
